Every planner or city official starts a project with one clear goal: To develop a quality program that fits the unique needs of the community.  How that goal translates into specific decisions produces innumerable issues that should be explored before starting the planning process.

Based on a new publication about the planning and development of urban wayfinding programs, the webinar “Urban Wayfinding: Best Practices for Planning, Design, and System Management” will delve into some of the decisions that will need to be made to ensure success for a wayfinding system.

This webinar will first look at decisions that the planner should make, including issues like: Development in stages or all at once?  Should programs be fully integrated into one system or include unique freestanding elements?  Are signs the best option for a wayfinding system? Where should scale and legibility truly matter?  These questions will be followed by a case study of Rockville Town Center, MD, which contains a number of innovative wayfinding system approaches.

Presented by experts in the planning and design fields, this webinar series will help planners learn how wayfinding programs can not only help their fellow citizens find where they want to go, but also enrich and enhance our experiences with urban environments. An effective and unique urban wayfinding program can make your community a more attractive destination, promote economic vitality and reinforce the local brand or culture.

Webinar Highlights:

  • Learn about the advantages of developing a wayfinding program in stages
  • Understand when a wayfinding project should fit into one fully integrated system, and when it should include freestanding elements
  • Learn about sign alternatives in wayfinding projects
  • Understand how cities approach digital and lighting technology

All registered attendees will receive a free copy of the full manual. Preview of the manual here >>
