Deputy Director for Land Use and Transportation

Job Position

 

The Director for Land Use & Transportation is a leadership position that manages the Land Use & Transportation Team (10), which includes staff responsible for transportation, housing, parks and open space, water resources, and place-based planning. In addition, some staff may be assigned regional liaison roles, which is the primary point of contact for municipalities in a region of the County.
This position also serves as the principal staff person and secretary to the Lancaster Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO).

Requirements 

 

Education: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in planning or a closely related field.

Experience: 8-10 years of varied and complex experience in planning, with a significant emphasis on management.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job effectively will be considered.
Certification: AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) certification is preferred.

  • Proven ability to effectively lead and manage teams, inspiring collaboration and achieving results.
  • A history of proactive, collaborative, and innovative administration of diverse projects and programs.

COMMUNICATION

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with extensive experience in presenting complex information to diverse groups.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that foster effective relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and the public.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE IN PLANNING

  • In-depth knowledge of the function and responsibilities of Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), coupled with practical experience in MPO administration.
  • Extensive experience in transportation planning, including expertise in active transportation, context-sensitive design, transit systems, and freight logistics.
