Tri-County Regional Planning Commission Annual Luncheon Keynote Speech

May 3, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Matt Smith is delivering the keynote speech at the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission’s 2018 annual luncheon. In his presentation, he will preview what local governments and communities can expect when driverless cars and trucks take to the roads in the near future. Based in Detroit, Smith manages Michael Baker International’s connected and automated vehicle program, working on advanced transportation technology solutions for state and local agencies across the U.S. A 1993 Penn State graduate, he has 23 years’ experience in traffic engineering and intelligent transportation systems, including running Michigan’s automated vehicle program.

Planners will learn what impacts local governments and communities can expect from automated vehicle technology, not only about physical roadway and transit changes but also parking structures, revenues, and
changing types of travel behavior and congestion. The keynote speech, including Q&A, is scheduled to be an hour in duration.
