Southwest Section presents PA Agriculture: Local Planning, Regulations & Policies
This 3-hour event intends to cover the following: Agricultural Law, Agricultural Planning Tools, Urban Agriculture, the Roles of the Conservation District, and Agricultural Issues in the Local Community. Specifically, Agricultural law will cover topics such as; right to farm, agricultural preservation, agricultural protection and security, and environmental regulations. Agricultural Planning Tools will look at some trends and provide some background. Agricultural programs and planning tools and their relationship to agriculture, in addition to agricultural and open space zoning will also be examined. This section swill wrap up with a discussion on how to fit all of the pieces together. Today, we would be remiss if we did not cover urban agriculture! The program will discuss general trends and issues and learn about the City of Pittsburgh’s programs and regulation, as well as, some observations and lessons learned. What exactly is the role of the conservation district? We will find out as we take a look at nutrient management, environmental protection, and education programs offered/ provided through each of the County Conservation Districts. The program will wrap up with a look at agricultural issues in the local community from the perspective of the local municipality and the agricultural Industry. Finally, we will discuss the future of agriculture.
