Public vs Private Perspectives: The Development Process as told by a Developer, Engineer, Planning & City Manager

REGISTER NOW

The planning process can be a lengthy and cumbersome process for everyone involved. Elected and appointed public officials are caught in the spotlight, charged with making sense of all the information and persuasive arguments presented to them in order to move a development forward or halt it in its tracks. Wouldn’t it be nice to have some insight on the various perspectives as it relates to planning and development review? Developers say they want predictability and a clear understanding of the review process, but sometimes question the regulations. Engineers set standards to ensure public safety and add public value, but they sometimes seem excessive. Planners enforces development standards and bring all the players to the table in hopes of agreeable outcomes that benefit the community, but some say they make the process take too long. The City Manager is often brought in to negotiate while representing the welfare of the community simultaneously balancing the political interests and economic needs. Listen to all four parties and an elected public official as moderator, as they discuss their point of view, best practices and things they wish every public official knew about the development review process.
