Safe Streets for Everyone: Lancaster County’s Complete Streets Program & Complete Streets in Southwest PA
People in Lancaster County and communities nationwide are seeking more opportunities to walk, bicycle and move about without a car for many trips. The benefits of providing safe infrastructure for “active transportation” include not only reduced traffic congestion, but improved public health and safety and more vital communities.
In this webinar, Lancaster County Planning Commission staff will present information about Lancaster County’s Complete Streets Program that was launched in 2014 with the adoption of a County Complete Streets Policy and a program of activities to be carried out over several years.
In addition, this webinar will highlight the challenges facing rural communities in changing traditional planning approaches and institutional frameworks to more effectively develop and implement policies that routinely create streets that are safe, comfortable and convenient for all users. The focus will be on communities in southwestern Pennsylvania.
