Southeast Section Event: Hoagies and Hardhats

September 28, 2013 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Hoagies and Hardhats: Commercial Corridor Revitalization in Tacony
Date: Saturday, September 28, 2013 from 2:30PM-4PM
Where: 4819 Longshore Ave, Unit C, Philadelphia PA 19135

Join APAPASE and the Tacony Community Development Corporation (CDC) for a tour and discussion highlighting two major projects undertaken by the CDC: the Façade Improvement Program and the award-winning Tacony Hoagie Trail.

The Tacony Community Development Corporation is entering the second-year of its “Historic Tacony Revitalization Project” to revitalize Torresdale Avenue in Tacony. The CDC uses an adapted “Main Street” approach (pioneered by the National Trust for Historic Preservation) focusing on clean and safe, design, promotion, and economic improvement of the Torresdale Ave commercial corridor.

The CDC has completed two major storefront renovations, and it is anticipated that construction will be underway on another ten during the tour. We will meet a business owner that participated in the program, discuss major challenges the program faced, and how the CDC responded to these challenges with unique legal and funding arrangements. We will also enjoy award-winning hoagies as we discuss the project.

Tacony is accessible via SEPTA Regional Rail from Center City Philadelphia. Train 9717 arrives to Tacony Station at 2:07 and our office is located approximately three blocks from the Tacony Station. Return train to Center City departs Tacony at 4:26. Ample street parking is also available.

The cost of the tour is $8 and includes a hoagie sample.
