Central Section Event: Guideposts for Decision Making

May 13, 2016 @ 8:30 am - 3:15 pm

This Guideposts for Decision Making: Land Use Law & Ethics workshop will demonstrate the dynamics associated with both law and ethics in the planning arena and is sure to benefit you in many ways. During the Land Use Law session, attendees will learn about recent amendments to the PA Municipalities Planning Code, PA Uniform Planned Community Act, and PA Uniform Condominium Act, as well as recent court decisions on a variety of land use topics. A portion of the Land Use Law session will also focus on updating local ordinances to address the various types of wireless communication facilities.

The Ethics session will explore the ethical standards faced by planners. Through facilitated discussion, a panel of certified Planners, representing the diverse sectors of planning, will be challenged to determine if the actions they portray violate the AICP Code of Ethics. Presenters, together with audience participation, will review the ethics rules and principles in play for each situation.

Between these two sessions will be a “Planning in the Fast Lane” round of short face-paced presentations by volunteer attendees to share a planning project, perspective on a planning topic, or a learning outcome.
