Central Section Event: Guideposts to Decision Making…

May 11, 2018 @ 8:45 am - 3:00 pm

Central Section Presents:
Guideposts to Decision Making: Land Use Law and Ethics

More Information

This Guideposts for Decision Making: Land Use Law & Ethics workshop will demonstrate the dynamics associated with both law and ethics in the planning arena. It is sure to benefit you in many ways.

During the Land Use Law session, you will learn about new developments in land use law. Recently enacted legislation will be discussed, including amendments to the PA Municipalities Planning Code, as well as the PA Uniform Planned Community Act and PA Uniform Condominium Act (concerning subdivision and land development). An update on recent court decisions involving a variety of land use topics will also be
presented.

Ethical decision-making is a complex matter. To assist in making such decisions, the Ethics session will provide an overview of the AICP Code of Ethics. It will also delve into how one goes about deciding how to act in complicated ethical situations and why it is important that the deliberative process be transparent to those whom the decision
influences. Sure, there are laws and professional guidelines. However, what do we do in the hard cases where these still leave us wondering what to do? The Workshop will provide insight to help you answer this question and others.

Between these two sessions will be a “Planning in the Fast Lane” round of short face-paced presentations by volunteer attendees to share a planning project, perspective on a planning topic, or a learning outcome. Hope you’ll join in the fun!
