The Mid-Atlantic Section of The Institute of Transportation Engineers (MASITE) in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as convener will host its first inaugural Pennsylvania Automated Vehicle Summit. This two-day event will bring to the table regional, county, and local stakeholders of planning, policy, and workforce.

As automated technologies permeate our transportation system, we must build a strong foundation of collaborative planning and policy. The purpose of this summit is in bringing together stakeholders to shape the HAV strategic plan and future legislation, raise awareness of long-term planning considerations, and begin preparations for the needs of tomorrow’s workforce.

The summit will kick off with an address by PennDOT Secretary Leslie Richards. Keynote speeches will feature experts from academia, industry, and government sectors. Invited to attend are all those in the transportation sphere, including municipal and rural planning organizations, elected officials, academics, economic development leaders, and those in the workforce, technical, and ethical fields.

Panel and plenary sessions will be hosted on topics varying from timelines of implementation to workforce development to ethics and liability. Other activities include demonstrations of autonomous freight, passenger, transit, and service technologies, and opportunities for participants to network with those at the forefront of developing autonomous technologies.

The summit will be held at the Ramada Conference Center in State College, PA, beginning Monday, September 11th at 10 am and concluding Tuesday, September 12th by 1 pm. Tuesday’s events will at Penn State’s Thomas D. Larson Test Track.
