Central Section Event: Rethinking Healthy Community Planning

November 6, 2015 @ 8:00 am - 3:45 pm

Who Plans for Health? We all do! The work we do as community planners can influence the behavioral choices people make in terms of food, shelter, travel, and leisure activities. The workshop will kick-off by highlighting recent efforts to plan for public health – or plan with health outcomes in mind – among these sectors and suggesting opportunities for meaningful plan integration. This will be followed by a presentation of the Pennsylvania State Health Improvement Plan, 2015-2020. An overview of the process of developing the SHIP and the contents of the plan. The vision of the SHIP is “Healthy people, healthy communities, healthy Pennsylvania”. In this overview, you will learn why the SHIP was important to the Health Department, and the standards and the model that were used to develop it. The SHIP process involved many stakeholders, and you will learn how the groups worked together at different stages of development. Finally, the topics of the plan will be highlighted as well as the goals, objectives and strategies that were identified as being able to make the necessary changes to improve the health of Pennsylvanians.
