September 15, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm

Short-Term Rental Trends and How to Craft an Ordinance to Handle Them

1.25 CM credits (pending approval)

The short-term rental (STR) market for using rental services such as Airbnb and VRBO has grown significantly in recent years. These services allow property owners to realize the economic benefit of renting all or part of their properties as an STR. However, there are corresponding concerns raised by neighboring property owners who feel STRs could result in the loss of sense of community given the transient nature of such use.

Short-term rentals have dramatically altered the landscape of guest accommodations and our understanding of how they affect communities. While the new sharing economy can bring economic benefits, they can also have detrimental effects on community character and housing inventory.

The Pocono Mountain Board of Realtors Short-term rental committee has over the past few years addressed issues that short term rentals including noise, parking and wastewater, and our on-going efforts to help municipalities, HOAs, and the general public to navigate the new reality brought about by the online rental portals.

This webinar will discuss the most recent data and trends for short-term rentals and share strategies to help communities minimize negative impacts and improve compliance via their ordinances as well as highlight a local effort to educate local government, short-term renters and short-term rental owners about this issue
