The Venn Diagram Between Hazard Mitigation Plans and Comprehensive Plans
In response to increasing natural and man-made hazards and threats, communities throughout the Mid-Atlantic region are embedding resilience in policies, programs, and plans in novel ways. Once reserved for infrastructure and emergency response planning, the urgency of the moment and the pressures of the future demand that resilience and hazard mitigation permeate every area of planning. In partnership with the Mid-Atlantic Planning Collaboration, the Maryland Department of Planning (MDP) is presenting this webinar to explore trends in the hazard mitigation planning field, share insights and recommendations from the newly adopted Maryland Hazard Mitigation Plan, elaborate strategies for resilience planning with an equity lens, describe how state agencies are helping Maryland’s jurisdictions implement the Resilience Sustainable Growth Principle, and highlight best practices. The webinar will conclude with a case study of Queen Anne’s County, which successfully integrated hazard mitigation within the comprehensive plan and its implementation. Panelists will share national, regional, state, and local perspectives.
