This session will give participants a broad overview of different planning academy models from across the U.S. It is designed for organizations who are either just getting started or considering launching a program, as well as some who are further along and looking to learn from others’ experiences. The webinar will start with a basic grounding on the Urban Institute’s research on planning academies. The panel will be made up of a broad geography, from the East Coast to the West, and in-between, as well as programs that are just starting and well-established. The training will address:

• How planning academies are structured
• Why planning programs run planning academies
• Challenges and lessons learned
• How programs have evolved over time, and
• Advice for others who are just getting started
