The City of Des Moines has been the primary driver behind neighborhood revitalization efforts in the community for over 20 years. As a mid-sized city, Des Moines has achieved significant success in improving neighborhood conditions through collaboration with residents, the business community, Polk County, a variety of non-profit organizations, and other neighborhood stakeholders. Learn about the evolution of the City’s Neighborhood Revitalization Program, including lessons learned through the Thrivent Builds Neighborhoods initiative – a more holistic approach to neighborhood planning that was piloted in two Des Moines’ neighborhoods. Additionally participants will learn how City of Des Moines neighborhood planners are looking for ways to make even bigger impacts despite shrinking resources.
