APA-PA Central Section Workshop: PennDOT’s Active Transportation Plan & Related Initiatives

November 8, 2019 @ 8:30 am - 12:00 pm

Active transportation infrastructure provides Pennsylvanians with affordable, environmentally-friendly modes of transportation and recreational opportunities. The rising number of Pennsylvanians living with chronic diseases linked to physical inactivity, lower-income populations unable to afford cars, and other populations that are more likely to walk or bike would see some of the greatest benefits from quality active transportation infrastructure.

The 2019 Active Transportation Plan works in conjunction with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan 2020-2025, as well as the Department of Health’s Pennsylvania State Health Improvement Plan 2015-2020, to develop a safe, connected multimodal transportation network that supports community health, equity, and economic opportunity for all citizens.

The draft Plan will be presented, along with new LTAP classes and examples of PennDOT Connects addressing bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure.
