Central Section Event: Planning for Data Facilities…

June 18 @ 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

Planning for Data Facilities that Drive Modern Business and Culture

Data center development is active across central Pennsylvania, bringing both significant opportunity and complex challenges for communities, utilities, and policymakers. This six-session program looks at data centers as an emerging land use—starting with the developer’s perspective on why Pennsylvania has become a prime location and how its land use and zoning processes compare nationally. Participants will gain insight into the factors that shape data center feasibility, then move into a broader examination of how state and local governments are responding through policy, regulation, and innovative siting strategies. Grounded in regional case studies, these sessions explore how communities are striving to balance data center development with economic, environmental, and public health considerations. Register here.

Attendees will learn about:

  • The operational requirements of data centers that drive site selection.
  • Pennsylvania’s scope and limitations on state and local regulation of data centers.
  • Best practices in regulating data centers at the local level.
  • Large load power demands, grid reliability, and water permitting.

There will be time for Q&A after each presenter.
