As Lancaster County has grown and developed, many of its natural systems have been altered, impacting natural rainfall infiltration and stormwater runoff. This has led to increased flooding, soil erosion and sedimentation, and poor water quality. Currently, over half of the county’s waterways are listed as impaired, and the water quality of the Susquehanna River and the Chesapeake Bay has been compromised.
This speaker series will address the many challenges faced by municipal officials, consultants and citizens in managing water resources, stormwater and water quality. Participants will gain a better understanding of the natural systems involved in the hydrologic process. They will learn about planning and management strategies that will help preserve, protect and restore natural habitat, improve infiltration, reduce stormwater runoff and pollutants, using a variety of best management practices and green infrastructure techniques.
