Principal Planner (Safety, Bicycle, and Pedestrian Planning)

Are you an experienced professional interested in safety and active transportation planning? The South Jersey Transportation Planning Organization (SJTPO) is ready to welcome you to our team! SJTPO is seeking a full-time Principal Planner to advance bicycle and pedestrian projects while reducing and ultimately eliminating roadway deaths. The SJTPO office in Vineland is within an hour’s drive of countless beautiful beaches, boardwalks, and natural areas, as well as Philadelphia, PA, and Wilmington, DE, and just over 2 hours from New York City, Baltimore, and the Pocono Mountains. The starting salary range is $67,000 to $75,000 (Range 7), depending on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities include data-driven safety initiatives, including the Local Safety Design Assistance Program, Local Safety Application Assistance Program, and implementation of the Countywide Local Road Safety Plans; bicycle and pedestrian planning, including planning and implementation of the Active Transportation Master Plan and support for the regional South Jersey Trails program; as well as management of consultant-led technical studies. The position will report directly to the Program Manager of Safety Initiatives and Public Outreach. Fieldwork and travel are required. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in planning, engineering, or a relevant alternative with a master’s degree strongly desired. Applicants must have at least five years of experience in transportation planning. A master’s degree or a full year of internships or cooperative education experience can be substituted for one year of experience. Candidates must have excellent written, verbal, and technical communication skills and should demonstrate experience in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Familiarity with ArcGIS, the Highway Safety Manual (HSM), the Crash Modification Factor (CMF) Clearinghouse, and/or HSIP-funded Local Safety Programs is desirable. Must be legally eligible to work in the US.
