– Assists and meets with applicants and developers pursuing site plans, conditional use, residential design review, general plan amendments, rezoning and subdivision approvals.
– Serves as a project coordinator on assigned projects; conducts site visits as necessary.
– Research and compile information on zoning and code issues for amendments and revisions.
– Ensure that all legal notices, postings, and mailings are completed within required legal time frame.
– Writes staff reports and prepare and deliver visual presentations in assigned areas of planning and sustainability.
– Leads the planning of municipal sustainability initiatives and programs.
– Develops and implements measuring and monitoring systems for sustainability efforts and communicates goals and progress.
– Engages with community and/or interest/stakeholder groups
– Develop marketing and funding strategies to promote sustainability.
– Prepares, submits, and manages grant applications as directed.
– Serves as the project coordinator and staff liaison to assigned committees, and assists in meeting schedules, preparation and distribution of agendas, minutes, and packets.
– Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
Bachelor’s degree or any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in in urban planning, urban design, environmental planning, environment science. Master’s degree preferred.
Certification as a Sustainability Planner a plus.
Knowledge of current models and programs for urban planning and sustainability, including federal and state policies and measurement/monitoring.
Knowledge of principles of energy and environmental management and economic development.
Knowledge of public administration and policy development.
Experience utilizing geographic information systems (GIS) software
Experience working in various database software programs including Microsoft Suite
Skill in interpreting planning and zoning related ordinances and policies.
Skill in word processing and presentation software
Ability to analyze data and develop program, policies, and initiatives.
Ability to work evenings when required
Ability to prepare, submit, and monitor grant applications
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
