Transportation Planner III



Michael Baker International is seeking an industry experienced Transportation Planner to join our Harrisburg, PA office Planning team. The ideal candidate will be driven, intellectually curious, committed to excellence, and demonstrate a desire to build strong client relationships.

The successful candidate, under limited supervision, will support planners and project managers with active transportation planning activities, including data collection and analysis, reporting and presentations, within the Harrisburg Planning Division as well as by collaborating with multimodal experts located in various Michael Baker offices throughout the United States. The Transportation Planner position reports to the Transportation Planning Division Manager.



The successful candidate will have experience in planning disciplines centered on transportation, such as long-range transportation planning, freight planning, corridor studies, and policy analysis. The Transportation Planner should also have a fundamental understanding of Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) programs as well as the provisions of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).

The Transportation Planner will work in a fast-paced environment with a dynamic team of professionals that focuses on making a difference and delivering value. The successful candidate will possess the following characteristics:

Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Engineering, Environmental, or related field; Master’s Degree preferred but not required

  • AICP is desired, but not required
  • 3-5 years of transportation planning experience in the areas of technical consulting, industry operations, or a combination thereof
  • Knowledge of planning disciplines, such as freight planning, community planning, and policy analysis
  • Ability to conduct research and prepare technical planning reports
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, with proficiencies in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; and ARCGIS
  • Experience with StoryMaps, WebMaps, Survey Monkey, Survey 123
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for preparing and presenting reports and projects
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently as well as in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to accommodate moderate travel including a valid driver’s license
