Lancaster County Planning Department Seeking a Planner

Job Position





We’re looking for energetic and resourceful Planners to join a department dedicated to making Lancaster County, Pennsylvania a better place to live, work, and visit. At the Lancaster County Planning Department, we emphasize teamwork in all that we do. We build on the strengths of our staff to create a positive work environment and help the community plan for the future.

The work of our department is guided by the county comprehensive plan, places2040. We’re proud of this plan, which emphasizes a countywide and regional approach we call “thinking beyond boundaries.” Planners promote this way of thinking by helping senior staff be more effective in their work. They collect & analyze data using GIS and other tools; research best practices in planning; maintain records; and assist with meetings, projects, plans, and programs.

Planners provide support for projects, plans, and programs related to comprehensive planning, growth management, land use, transportation, environment, heritage conservation, placemaking, planning education, and civic engagement. They also contribute to regional planning initiatives, reviews of local plans and ordinances, and processing of environmental notifications.

The Lancaster County Planning Department is located in the heart of downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania, a diverse city of 60,000 residents with walkable neighborhoods, a lively restaurant scene, and numerous arts and cultural venues. As a whole, Lancaster County has a population of 550,000, world-class farmland and natural areas, and distinctive small towns.



Minimum qualifications for this position are a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in planning or a related field or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job.
