Description 

 

Easttown Township is a suburb of Philadelphia, located in Devon, Chester County PA. The Director of Planning and Zoning is a strategic partner who works closely with the Township Manager to lead a Township of the Second Class with approximately 11,000 residents in 8.2 square miles. The Township’s government provides a wide range of services to reflect a unique mix of history and progress and is recognized for its efforts to provide a high quality of life and participatory government for its residents.

This highly responsible hands-on management position reports to the Township Manager and partners closely with a five (5) member Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission, Historical Commission, Zoning Hearing Board, Department Heads, administrative staff, consultants, attorneys, and the public. This position is responsible for the Township’s current and long –range planning functions, including land development, property maintenance, zoning, historic preservation and respective administrative duties. Work involves technical and administrative duties managing the Township Engineer and Building Code Official. The positions serves as the appointed Zoning Officer and principal staff for the Township Planning Commission, Historical Commission, and Zoning Hearing Board.

Salary range of $90,000 to $105,000 with a competitive compensation and benefits package is commensurate with qualifications and experience. All hires are contingent on successful completion of a background check/verification.

Job Requirements 

 

Candidate must have considerable knowledge on matters of zoning, land development, subdivision, land development, floodplain management, zoning, and property maintenance. Strong knowledge of zoning codes, subdivision and land development codes, comprehensive plans, and the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code. Candidate must have the ability to read engineering and architecture plans as well as read, interpret, and enforce laws and codes. Strong grant writing and administration for planning and zoning projects.

Qualified candidates must possess Bachelor degree in Planning, Urban Studies, Engineering, Architecture or other related fields with five (5) years of experience in planning and zoning related work. Master degree Planning, Urban Studies, Engineering, Architecture or other related field with suitable experience in planning and zoning related work preferred. American Institute of Certified Planners and Pennsylvania Certified Zoning Officer certifications are a plus.
