Director of Planning & Zoning

Description 

 

This is a responsible professional planning and administrative position, requiring a comprehensive knowledge of the physical, social, and economic implications of local planning activities, and the ability to integrate diverse planning projects with the overall objectives of the City. The work is performed under the policy direction of the Community and Economic Development Director.

Requirements

 

Considerable experience as a Planner and possession of a Master’s Degree in planning, preferably graduate work in the field or specialty; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of modern urban planning and land use concepts; ability to direct the preparation of comprehensive area plans and varied community plans; ability to direct the drafting of legislation to accomplish planning and land use goals and initiatives; ability to secure the cooperation of major civic groups and leaders in executing plans; ability to speak effectively and persuasively; ability to maintain collaborative working relationships with other City staff and departments; skill in supervising others.
