Job Description


The CRPA is an Agency of the Centre Region Council of Governments (COG) serving six municipalities in the State College area of Centre County, PA. The planning area has a population of approximately 92,000 people and a geographic area of 150 square miles. The Centre Region is home to Penn State University’s main campus, and is a beautiful university community nestled in the green mountains of central Pennsylvania. The Centre Region has all the advantages of a university town including a wide variety of educational and cultural opportunities, Big Ten sports, and many outdoor adventures.

The CRPA is seeking a dynamic individual with the vision and commitment to help forge a regional approach to sustainability efforts in the Centre Region. Initial work includes: researching and reporting activities that Centre Region municipalities, COG, and other entities are currently undertaking to support climate action, and to: assess how, if, and where a regional approach to these activities (and others) could support regional resiliency, leverage funding, align or improve the deployment of resources, and support regional climate action efforts in a way that adds value to municipal efforts; determine the key stakeholders, potential roles, and challenges in forging a regional approach. Stakeholders could include, but are not limited to, the municipalities, Centre County, PSU, regional authorities, and non-profits, and; propose next steps needed to form a lasting program for regional collaboration to address climate action. Next steps should include an organizational and decision-making structure, administration, funding, cost sharing, other potential revenue sources, and membership. This is an opportunity to help build regional-level sustainability initiatives and programs in the Centre Region.

The position provides support to the Centre Regional Planning Commission, the COG Public Services and Environmental Committee, and the COG General Forum.

Job Requirements


Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university with major coursework in community, regional, environmental planning, or geographic information systems and one year of planning experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
