Senior Planner, Municipal Assistance Program

Job Description

The Brandywine Conservancy, a program of the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, is seeking an experienced, energetic, creative, senior planner to lead innovative land use and environmental management projects on behalf of its Municipal Assistance Program (MAP) in southeastern Pennsylvania and northern Delaware. The position requires an individual with extensive local planning, water resources protection, or natural resource conservation expertise and a passion for success. The successful candidate must be a collaborative problem solver, an excellent communicator, and a good fit with the Conservancy’s staff and organizational culture. The Senior Planner serves as project manager and works as part of a team of professional planners and landscape architects who interact daily with municipal officials and volunteers, state, and federal agency representatives, engineering and design professionals, attorneys, NGO partners, and the general public.

Job Requirements 

  1. The Brandywine Conservancy seeks a Senior Planner with planning and project management experience, with strong personal initiative, organizational skills, and interpersonal and written communication skills.
  2. Candidates should have a Master’s degree in planning, landscape architecture, or related field, and have been working in his or her area of expertise for at least 3 years.
  3. Successful candidates must have a current understanding of municipal planning and land development procedures and environmental issues in Pennsylvania, and a strong desire to affect change at the local level. Expertise with any of the following is desirable: green infrastructure, stormwater/best management practices, water-quality permitting, biodiversity, conservation design, transfer of development rights, or incentive-based zoning.
  4. The Senior Planner manages multiple projects and often works independently in a fast-paced environment; meeting deadlines and solving problems is critical.
  5. Requires attendance at evening and occasional weekend meetings.
