Every two years, the American Planning Association invites nominations for one of the profession’s highest honors: induction into the AICP College of Fellows (FAICP). This prestigious designation recognizes planners whose careers demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation, and service—professionals who have shaped communities and advanced the field in lasting, meaningful ways.
What Is the FAICP?
The FAICP designation is reserved for planners who have made outstanding and sustained contributions across areas such as professional practice, community service, education, mentoring, and leadership. It is a recognition of impact—measured
not just in years of work, but in the depth of influence on people, places, and the planning profession.2
Who Should Be Nominated?
More planners qualify than you might think. Ideal nominees often include:
Visionary leaders who have transformed communities
Educators who have shaped generations of planners
Innovators who have advanced planning practice
Advocates whose service has strengthened the profession
Mentors who have guided and inspired others
If someone’s work has left a mark—locally, regionally, or nationally—they may be a

How the Process Works
A complete FAICP nomination typically includes:
- A detailed nomination form
- Documentation of achievements and impact
- Letters of support
- Review and endorsement by the nominee’s APA chapter
