Penn Boat Tour
5:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Pier 24N (north of Dave & Busters)
Cost $30 (includes snacks & cash bar)
In conjunction with the CM session Waterfront Revitalization on June 19, a boat tour is planned for June 18 to include a waterside view of the Philadelphia waterfront with a focus on the PennPraxis plan that has been developed for the redevelopment of a substantial portion of the waterfront. That plan has been endorsed by the City and Mayor Nutter and is a creative solution to utilizing the waterfront for mixed use development and for public access to a fantastic resource. As you know, the Philadelphia waterfront has been separated from much of the City by I-95 and portions have been developed for non-water dependent (commercial) uses. Presenter Steinberg and PennPraxis developed the plan and engaged a large portion of the community in a year long public process to develop this plan. Among the major features is returning portion of the river's edge to native vegetation and coastal wetland communities with all the associated benefit of habitat, flood mitigation, improved water quality, and aesthetics/enhanced views. The plan has a very green focus and when implemented will return the Philadelphia waterfront to a world class amenity with great public access.
The tour will review the plan and observe the areas to be transformed. This will be of interest to planners, urban designers, landscape architects, citizens, as well as people who just love an excuse to be on the water hopefully on a beautiful early summer's eve. There will be food and drink and comraderie.

Jim Neblett, Planning Director, Logan County, Colorado

We will explore the benefits of wind power generation, and discuss real and perceived land use impacts of wind turbines such as noise, avian impacts, and aesthetics. Part II identifies the permitting of large wind farm projects in rural areas and will focus on the process of permitting 1.5 megawatt or larger turbines and associated facilities through conditional use permit processes and development agreements.
