What you will learn in this workshop:

  • Examine design tools that help professionals balance and meet the needs of all transportation users
  • Describe technical design flexibility within current design guides and standards
  • Identify real and perceived barriers to complete streets implementation and discuss solutions

Engineers, planners, program managers and other professionals must consider and balance the needs of all types of people using multiple travel modes. This workshop explores when and how to use state-of-the-practice technical design tools, and examines the flexibility already within them. Research and best practice examples will help professionals more effectively apply these tools back home. The workshop also delivers proven strategies to more effectively integrate complete streets policies and principles into everyday practice.

The National Complete Streets Coalition, the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals, and the Institute of Transportation Engineers collaborated to develop this half-day workshop, which offers 3.5 professional development hours and AICP Certification Maintenance credits. The workshop will be taught by Roger Henderson, PE, PTOE, AICP, one of the National Complete Streets Coalition’s most experienced design instructors.
